This is our story...

Being both motorcycle riders with a love for travelling, we talked about touring the world on bikes about two years ago.

After looking into logistics/constraints and places we wanted to explore, we decided to tour the Americas from Alaska, USA to Ushuaia, Argentina.

We also wanted to have the same motorcycle to simplify maintenance, and find something we would both feel comfortable riding. We ended up chosing the Suzuki V-Strom 650, a 07' grey one for Chad and a 05' red one for Caroline.

We left for our journey on 6/14/09 from Washington, DC and arrived in Ushuaia, Argentina on 4/19/10. Click here and read below to see what it took us to make it to Ushuaia.

On 6/9/10, we flew back to the United States almost exactly a year after we had left for this journey.

The four delights of Wisconsin

You would have asked me a couple of weeks ago where Wisconsin was (and this is obviously Caroline writing as Chad has a perfect knowledge of the US geography), I would not have been really sure where to place it on the map. Somewhere in the North...Well, I have to say not only can I place it on the map now but I also think it is an awesome state.

Milwaukee and its factories

We decided to see two of the American icons were produced: Harley Davidson motorcycles and Miller beer (yes, I know that one is border line). We started early with the Harley Davidson factory: we got to see how they produce the engine parts a then assemble them for the engine to be shipped to other locations, such as Kansas City. It was really neat and after that, we got to sit on a couple of Harleys and a Buell. In the afternoon, it was time for a Miller beer as the weather was pretty hot, which we enjoyed in the nice Miller Beergarten. Oh yeah, we we also learned how high quality beer is produced such as Pabst Blue Ribbon;)

Cheese, Ice Cream, Brats and Beer

Who would believe that Wisconsin is the home of so many delicious treats? Well, we made sure we tried them all in Madison and nothing but the best thanks to the recommendations of our friends Matt and Beckie as well as Pam, who lives there. We BBQed Brats made by a local butcher the two nights we were there, trying different local brews each time. Caroline's favorite was called “Simply naked” and Chad's was the “Fat Squirrel”. Go figure. We also went to the University Campus and had local made ice cream and cheese. Hmmm, we are still drooling over it. Yes, I can say without a doubt that Wisconsin is very dear to my heart now, I mean stomach!

  1. Nice you saw the HD engine factory. Lyn & I have wanted to go there for a while just never made it and we have a HD. Now that we know WI has other good stuff we'll have to make it.

  2. How could you think that Miller beer is a border line American icon? We like to say it's "Miller time" around here...
(Obviously not so much for the beer itself but for the name)
Glad all is still going well and that you have some new food memories!
